Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started with LiquidSky

How can I sign up for LiquidSky?

You need to click on the upper-right Sign Up button on our website to create a free account. You will be asked to enter your email address, create a password and accept our terms of service. You will then be prompted to verify your email.

Why do you need my phone number?

If you provide us with your phone number we may use it to send you important notifications and update you on your SkyComputer or subscription status.

We never sell or distribute your information. Additionally, enterprise level security keeps all your personal data safe.

My status says pending. What does that mean?

It means that your account is pending approval. Currently in beta, LiquidSky hosts a limited number of accounts at any given time, so there’s a wait list. We give beta access to users in waves and you will be notified about getting in via email. You can also get instant access to our beta if you purchase a plan. However, you will skip your free trial and we will not be able to refund your transaction.

How do I get a free trial?

After signing up on our website you are automatically added to the list of users that are waiting for beta access. We accept new users in waves and make sure that our servers are ready for you to use your free trial. You receive 3 SkyCredits with your free trial and you have 3 days to use them. After 3 days from the moment your first SkyCredit has been charged your SkyComputer is deleted unless you subscribe to a plan. If you don’t want to wait until you are accepted into the beta you can subscribe to a plan and gain instant access but you will also skip your free trial. Please have in mind that we do not offer refunds so if your network turns out to be not good enough to use LiquidSky we will not be able to reimburse you.

After my free trial ends do I lose my SkyComputer and all my progress?

No. You’re given a 3 day grace period where you can decide whether or not to upgrade. After 3 days your SkyComputer will be deleted. You can still upgrade after this time period, but you won’t be able to recover your previous SkyComputer. If you upgrade to any plan within 3 days of ending your free trial then your SkyComputer will be saved. Please note that you can’t access your SkyComputer during this grace period, you will need to upgrade first.

Why do I have to take the free trial? Can’t I just pay upfront?

We want to make sure your LiquidSky experience is a great one before you spend any of your hard earned money. Use your one day free trial to make sure everything works smoothly. We do this because there are still some devices out there on which LiquidSky doesn’t provide the best experience possible. You may also be too far from one of our data centers.

However, if you don’t want to wait until you are accepted into the beta you can subscribe to a plan and gain instant access but you will skip your free trial. Please have in mind that we do not offer refunds so we are not going to be able to reinburse you if your network is not good enough to use LiquidSky.

How can I gain approval to the Beta?

By creating an account on our website and confirming your email address you automatically sign up for our beta. You then have to wait in line to get in as we grant beta access to users in waves so that our servers are not being overloaded and everyone can have a good experience.
However, if you don’t want to wait until you are accepted into the beta you can subscribe to a plan and gain instant access but you will skip your free trial. Please have in mind that we do not offer refunds so we are not going to be able to reinburse you if your network is not good enough to use LiquidSky.

If you have an Android device, you can simply download our app from Google Play.

LiquidSky Explained

What is LiquidSky?

LiquidSky is a high performance PC-as-a-Service. We give you a Windows or Steam environment, and you can do anything you want with it, including download and run any PC-based game or program. You can do this from almost any web-enabled device, including low-end PCs, Macs, Linux machines, and Android phones and tablets. Pretty simple, right? Only our computers are really powerful, so it’s effectively like getting a hardware upgrade without having to buy a new computer!

What is LiquidSky’s Mission?

Our mission is to dramatically lower costs and increase the efficiency of computing by giving users access to all the computing power they need in the cloud – or in our case, the Sky! No more buying expensive hardware to play games or run programs, just subscribe to what you need from us. We also provide a lightning-fast internet experience, something we call Sky-accelerated web browsing. No more buffering videos, viruses, or slow downloads – you get Sky speed! The main issues surrounding cloud gaming or the consumer “thin-client” have been latency, cost, scalability, and catalog. We have solved all four. Why limit yourself to the cloud when you can have the Sky!

Why is LiquidSky a Big Deal?

Glad you asked. PC Games and professional applications require expensive hardware. Alternately, there’s us. We invest in the top-tier computers for our users. No more maintenance, repairs, or pricey upgrades. Additionally, LiquidSky members can access their high performance SkyComputer from any device. You only pay for what you use when you use it. You’re essentially getting all the benefits of a powerful local PC, but for a fraction of the price.

I already have a crazy-good rig. Why should I be excited?

Good for you! Enjoying those AAA titles on a tablet? We didn’t think so. LiquidSky liberates you from your big tower or Hummer-sized laptop. Play anywhere you have an internet-connected device.

Isn’t this just a remote desktop?

No! Remote desktops connect you to your own computer back home, so you are a subject to those hardware constraints plus the latency of the connection. LiquidSky connects you to our powerful computers in the cloud, and we have the lowest latency out there.

What are the minimum hardware requirements to run LiquidSky?

For Windows: at least 5 Mb/sec Internet speed (5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet), Intel HD 4000 GPU or newer, 2 GB of RAM, Windows 7 or higher.

For Android: at least 5 Mb/sec Internet speed (5 GHz Wi-Fi or 4G), Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or higher

For Mac Alpha: at least 5 Mb/sec Internet speed (5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet), 2 GB of RAM 10.8 Mountain Lion or higher

For Linux Alpha: at least 5 Mb/sec Internet speed (5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet), 2 GB of RAM, Linux distributions with GNOME based Desktop Environments (Desktop Environments that use GNOME [without explicit mention] are Ubuntu’s Unity shell, MATE, and Cinnamon).

This is impossible! Isn’t there a lot of latency?

LiquidSky has the lowest latency out there, and we’re still going lower. For those not in know, latency is the slowdown that causes lag, particularly in online gaming. For the best experience, you should be within 500 or so kilometers from one of our data centers. Depending on your hardware, internet connection, and what kind of game you’re playing, you can have a good experience up to 1,500 kilometers or more.

What can I do using LiquidSky?

You can use LiquidSky exactly the same way you would use your regular desktop computer with a Windows or Steam operating system. You can play games, do some work, watch movies, surf the internet at crazy-fast speeds. Whatever. It’s your computer to do with what you want.

Can I access the storage on my device from LiquidSky client?

You will not be able to access your external drive/hard disk from your SkyComputer just yet. We are working on the communication between your device and your SkyComputer so you can access your physical storage in the future. As of now you will have to use services like Google Drive or Dropbox to transfer data to or from your SkyComputer and install games from the internet, Steam or similar services.

Do I lose my data after I logout and end my session?

If you are on Pay-as-You-Go plan, your data stays the same even after you log out and log back in as long as you use LiquidSky continuously. You need to log in at least every 7 days to prevent your SkyComuter from being deleted on that plan.

If you are on Gamer or Unlimited Plan your SkyComputer is never deleted, unless you change your data center, reset your SkyComputer or downgrade your plan. When you downgrade your plan, your SkyComputer is being deleted immediately so please have that in mind.

Will LiquidSky be expanding to my location?

We have many data centers in different locations across the globe. Check out our data center page link to see where they are and what locations are coming up in the future. You can also suggest your own location through the Request Server Location form under our interactive map on that page.

What is a LiquidCPU and LiquidGPU?

Everyone wants to know what specs come with their SkyComputer to compare it to their regular desktop or laptop. Unfortunately, this is not a possible comparison and that’s why we define our hardware as LiquidCPU and LiquidGPU. Our hardware is custom-built to accommodate the resource-sucking games people want to play. We have really powerful hardware that you can’t compare to something from BestBuy. Note that you can play almost any game you want on the High Performance Package, but if you want to play the newest games on the highest settings then you might need Ultra.

Why would anyone use a web browser on LiquidSky?

You get our bandwidth speeds: 1GB/sec (or close to it). Not bragging, but that is way, way faster than you probably get right now. Never buffer another Netflix session, to say the least.

What Makes LiquidSky Different from OnLive or Nvidia GeForce Now?

LiquidSky gives you a full Windows gaming PC in the cloud that you can access from any device. Games like League of Legends and Fallout 4 run on their highest settings with ultra low latency. With LiquidSky you can install any program or game to your SkyComputer as long as it does not break our term and conditions rules.

OnLive was a cloud gaming service which allowed you to stream a closed catalog of mostly indie games to low end devices. The service had no support for online/multiplayer games. Many reviews claim that games were delivered with low graphics quality and a great deal of latency. Onlive was shut down a few years ago and is no longer operating.
Similar to OnLive, NVIDIA GeForce Now offers a closed catalog of mostly indie PC games with no support for online game play. GeForce Now also only works on NVIDIA Shield devices.

How SkyCredits Work

What are SkyCredits?

SkyCredits are a type of currency used by LiquidSky. You can exchange them for time spent in your SkyComputer.

  • 1 SkyCredit = 1 Hour of Access to SkyComputer using the High Performance Package
  • 2 SkyCredits = 1 Hour of Access to SkyComputer using the Ultra Performance Package

Do I Get Any SkyCredits to Try LiquidSky?

You receive 3 SkyCredits with your free trial and you have 3 days to use them. After 3 days from the moment your first SkyCredit has been charged your SkyComputer is deleted unless you subscribe to a plan. Use this time wisely to test games you want to play and make sure your experience is smooth.

How many SkyCredits are used for a 1 hour and 30 minute session?

In this example (considering you are using the High Performance Package where 1 SkyCredit = 1 hour of use) you would be charged 2 credits and will have 30 minutes remaining until your next SkyCredit is charged. You can end your session with 30 minutes left and start up a new session and still have those 30 minutes before a SkyCredit is charged again.

Do my SkyCredits rollover to the next month?

Hey, sometimes even gamers need a break. With the Gamer Monthly Plan you receive 80 SkyCredits at the beginning of your billing cycle every month. Whatever you don’t use rolls over to the next month. Rollover SkyCredits are capped at 720 total and do not expire.

Pricing

How much will everything cost in my country’s currency?

If the payment method you have selected does not allow you to use your currency, the amount you pay will be based on the exchange rate of your currency and the currency your payment is made in. You can always search for payment methods or pick your country from the toolbar to find payment methods that originate from your country and should give you an option to pay in your native currency.

What forms of payment do you accept?

With Xsolla payment integration, over 700 payment methods are available all over the world now. Once you are on the payment page you will see the most popular payment methods. If you click on “show more methods”, you will be able to search for your favorite and most convenient payment method using the search field or filter payments that are available and most common in your country by selecting it from the list.

Gaming on LiquidSky

Can I play games immediately or will I need to install them?

You need to install your games before playing. You can load your Steam account and download your favorite games. You can also download games through your browser. If you have a Windows Store license, you can download directly from the store.

What games and apps can I install?

Just about anything compatible with Windows. With your SkyComputer you can play any game available for Windows (except exclusive games made for Windows Store). You can also install any applications you’d like through your browser or other means. Treat this as a normal PC you have at home, just with a lot more power.

Will my installed games stay on my SkyComputer?

Yes, but only if you keep on using LiquidSky. If you are a Pay-As-You-Go user but haven’t logged in for 7 days, your SkyStorage will be deleted.

On Gamer and Unlimited pans you do not have to worry about losing your SkyComputer as long as your plan is active. However, if your monthly payment fails, you will receive an email that your SkyComputer is going to be deleted within 3 days unless your payment is successful.

Lastly, your SkyComputer is deleted after 3 days from the moment you start your free trial if you do not upgrade to a plan.

Can I use game controllers on LiquidSky?

Yes. The most common controllers should easily sync with LiquidSky on all devices. If your game does not respond to inputs from the controller, you may have to map the keys in your game options, usually found in the control settings. A wired controller will give you the best experience while wireless controllers may cause some latency.

Having Issues with the Controller?

In the LiquidSky Menu under settings, the remap controller function can take a few attempts to learn about the axis and buttons on your device. Some devices share an Axis between buttons or triggers. Please try remapping buttons/sticks/triggers in a few different orders to see if your SkyComputer can learn and distinguish between them. If that does not work, you could try using another remapping program on your local PC by placing a custom dll in the appdata/roaming/liquidsky folder. Download x360ce, put it in the lib folder and then set your settings just like I did:

If it still does not work, please submit a support ticket and provide your controller model so that we can investigate the issue.

What can I use LiquidSky for except for games?

Glad you’re asking. There are plenty of other applications, including popular web browsers, office applications, and any other software that you can use on LiquidSky – just like on your regular home PC.

General Questions

Are there any circumstances under which my SkyComputer will be deleted?

There are many different situations in which your SkyComputer may get deleted making you lose your data. They all differ depending on the plan you have.

Free Trial: Your SkyComputer will be deleted after 3 days from the moment you start your free trial unless you upgrade to a plan. Upgrading does not make you lose your SkyComputer.

Pay-as-You-Go: Your SkyComputer will be deleted after 3 days from the moment your SkyCredits count reaches 0 and you don’t purchase more SkyCredits or buy a subscription within those 3 days. You will also lose your SkyComputer if you don’t log in to your SkyComputer at least once within 7 days. Upgrading to a higher plan does not make you lose your SkyComputer.

Gamer Monthly: Your SkyComputer will NOT be deleted as long as you have this plan active. You do not need to keep logging in to your SkyComputer to prevent the deletion either. However, downgrading to Pay-as-You-Go will make you lose your SkyComputer immediately due to it having less SkyStorage.

Unlimited: Your SkyComputer will NOT be deleted as long as you have this plan active. You do not need to keep logging in to your SkyComputer to prevent the deletion either. However, downgrading to a lower plan will make you lose your SkyComputer immediately due to it having less SkyStorage.

Your SkyComputer will also be deleted whenever you downgrade to a plan that comes with less storage that you currently have. For example if you have a Gamer Plan that comes with 500 GB of SkyStorage and you upgrade to the Unlimited Plan that comes with 1 TB (1000 GB) of SkyStorage, your SkyComputer will NOT be deleted because we are able to simply add it to your account. However, when you decide to downgrade from the Unlimited Plan back to the Gamer Plan, we have to delete your SkyComputer.

Also, if your monthly payment fails, you will receive an email that your SkyComputer is going to be deleted within 3 days unless your payment is successful.

My payment did not go through. What should I do?

If your payment attempt was made after October 3rd, 2016 (excluding automatic payment renewal for subscriptions created before October 4th, 2016), please visit https://help.xsolla.com/ and contact their support. They should be able to tell you why your payment was unsuccessful.

Can I get banned?

Yes. First, you will get banned for life by trying to engage in any kind of fraudulent activity – using stolen credit cards, for instance. You can also get banned if you don’t comply with our terms and conditions. No torrenting. Note that we are obliged to report any illegal activity on our SkyComputers to the proper authorities in your country.

I can’t log in to my account. What can I do?

Most likely there is an issue with your login or password so please check to make sure your caps lock isn’t on and make sure there are no typos. If you are sure your credentials are correct, then you should try resetting your password by clicking on the Login option and Forgot Password? (direct link). You will then receive an email with a link to reset your password.

If I have a technical issue, do you have a Support Department I can contact?

Our support is dedicated to users on Pay-as-You-Go, Gamer and Unlimited plans only. If you have one of those plans you should see a chat option on our website after logging in. Please try describing your issues or questions in the best possible way when you contact us so we can provide you with quick and accurate answers.
Please remember that for inquiries regarding a payment made after October 3rd, 2016 (excluding automatic payment renewal for subscriptions created before October 4th, 2016), please visit https://help.xsolla.com/ and contact Xsolla support.

If you are a free user you can post your questions on our forum http://community.liquidsky.tv/ or search our Knowledge Base for answers.

With the Gamer Monthly Plan can I purchase additional SkyCredits?

Yes. Being in a Gamer Monthly Plan you can always purchase additional SkyCredits for a discounted rate of $0.30/SkyCredit. You can purchase up to 100 more SkyCredits every month.

Can I torrent games and software on my SkyComputer?

Using torrents or any kind of piracy on your SkyComputer is forbidden and you will get banned for doing so. It is against our terms of use so be aware of that and always use software that you have license for. If you own a game or a program on a physical disk rather transfer the installation files to your SkyComputer using Google Drive or alike services than download it using a torrent.

What happens if I sign up for a monthly plan and then cancel it?

If you downgrade your plan, the changes will be instant and your SkyComputer will be deleted. We do not advise downgrading while your plan is active unless you are aware of the fact that your plan will be removed. If you don’t make your scheduled payment and have no SkyCredits left on your account then your SkyComputer will remain in a “grace period” for 3 days in case you change your mind. After 3 days your SkyComputer and all your files will be deleted if you do not upgrade or buy SkyCredits.

Is my data and what I do on my SkyComputer monitored or shared with 3rd parties?

We do not share your data or activity on your SkyComputer unless it is an illegal activity. Also your actions are not being monitored by us unless you break our rules and has been flagged by our systems for illegal or suspicious activity.

Can I upgrade my SkyStorage?

Your SkyStorage is fixed and comes with the plan you choose, therefore, you can not expand it unless you upgrade to a plan that gives you more SkyStorage.

You get:

  • 100 GB of SkyStorage with the Pay-As-You-Go Plan.
  • 500 GB of SkyStorage with the Gamer Monthly Plan.
  • 1000 GB (1TB) of SkyStorage with the Unlimited Plan.
